My research lies at the intersection of international and comparative political economy, with a particular focus on how economic globalization shapes political behavior and institutional outcomes in the Global South. My dissertation, Financial Globalization in the Developing World: Crisis and Corruption, examines how debt-driven integration into global financial markets contributes to recurrent financial crises and rising corruption. Building on this foundation, I investigate elite strategies of blame avoidance and credit claiming during economic crises, using Turkey and Argentina as comparative cases. This work includes observational and experimental surveys supported by Northwestern University’s Buffett Institute.
As a postdoctoral researcher with the ERC-funded DEPOLARIZE project at Koç University, I study affective polarization and depolarization interventions across highly polarized democracies and electoral autocracies. In addition, I collaborate on projects exploring international migration and education policy, environmental politics, and climate-related mobility as part of the Belmont Forum–funded PHOENIX network. Across these projects, my goal is to understand how economic and political transformations intersect to shape accountability, public opinion, and political behavior.
